The Poyen Indians’ baseball team will be playing in the Class 2A State Playoffs for the first time since 2017. Their unlikely trip to the tournament started Monday, May 1, in the first round of the regional tournament at Magnet Cove.
The old adage is records are made to be broken. The Sheridan Yellowjackets track and field team took that to heart at the Class 5A State Championships at Lake Hamilton on Thursday, May 4.
Sheridan High School’s Skylar Sterritt brought home two individual state championships and was runner-up in another at the Class 5A State Championships on Thursday, May 4 at Lake Hamilton.
The Class 2A State Championships in track and field were held on Tuesday, May 2 at Quitman High School, and Poyen received admirable performances in both the boys’ and girls’ events from Aaron Webb and Ashlynn Leonard, respectively.
The Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets junior varsity softball team did not lose a game during the month of April and had just two losses heading into the final two games of the year, both against Benton.
The Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets recorded a pair of convincing wins last week. They defeated Lake Hamilton 15-3 at home on Thursday, April 27, before going on the road for a 16-0 shutout over Hot Springs Lakeside on Friday, April 28.
England High School played host to the 2A Region 5 Conference track meet on Tuesday, April 25, with the Poyen Lady Indians finished in second place with a score of 127. Bigelow won the meet mith a point total of 245.5.
