DAR, Colonial Dames hear Women of The Mayflower program
Chicot Trace Chapter Daughters of American Revolution and the Ouachita Valley Chapter Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century had a joint Christmas meeting and program on Dec. 14, 2019, at the Wynne-Phillips House in Fordyce. DAR Regent Barbara Drye called the meeting to order and led the Ritual assisted by Doris Faulkner. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States was led by Lori Brown. Melrose Bagwell led the Salute to the Arkansas Flag. Barbara Finley led The American's Creed. Barbara Jones led the Preamble to the Constitution. Barbara Drye led the group in singing "The Star-Spangled Banner".

2020 Grant County Spelling Bee Results
Sixty-two contestants from East End, Poyen, and Sheridan competed at the 2020 Grant County Spelling Bee on Friday, Jan. 10 at McKenzie Auditorium on the campus of Sheridan High School.

Seniors sought to participate in 2020 Silver Haired Legislative Session
The Department of Human Services, Division of Aging, Adult and Behavioral Health Services, in partnership with the Arkansas Area Agencies on Aging, is seeking Arkansans age 60 and older to volunteer to serve as delegates to the Twenty- Second Biennial Silver Haired Legislative Session (SHLS) being held Aug. 26-27. Delegates will serve as legislators in this non-partisan session by writing, debating, and voting on bills addressing issues critical to older Arkansans.

SAU releases honor lists
In the fall 2019 semester 374 students earned a 4.0 GPA, earning recognition on the Southern Arkansas University President's List and breaking last year's record of 290.
Local students named to the President's List included Paige Keen, a senior Criminal Justice major; Curt Smead a junior Music Education major; Kacie Evans a junior Chemistry major, all of Leola; and Dylan Mullins a junior History major; Brittany Monk a junior Accounting major; and Megan Harrington a sophomore Middle School Education major, all of Sheridan.
