Indians silence Thunderbirds on homecoming
Friday, Oct. 8 was Homecoming night at Poyen and the Indians (4-2) marked the occasion with a 32-14 beatdown of the Cross County Thunderbirds (1-4).
Poyen rushed for 397 yards on 41 carries, averaging 9.7 yards per carry. Poyen held its homecoming opponent to just 2.8 yards per carry (36 attempts for 104 yards) in the game. The Indians also forced two turnovers.
Poyen set the tone early, with a three-play, 46-yard drive on it's first possession. Colton Lowe capped off the drive with a 35-yard scamper for a touchdown.

Sheridan cross country runs at Bryant
On Saturday, Oct. 9, the Sheridan High School and Junior High School cross country teams took part in the Danny Westbrook Bryant Hornet Invitational.
The junior high teams ran a two-mile course, while the high school teams took on a 5,000-meter run.
A total of 190 competitors took part in the high school boys' race, including four from Sheridan.

Freshman Jackets fall in defensive battle
Points came at a premium in the Sheridan Freshman Yellowjackets 8-0 home loss to the White Hall Bulldogs on Thursday, Oct. 7.
Thanks to big defensive stops by Sheridan, the game was scoreless until there was 7:18 left in the game. An interception gave the Bulldogs a short field to work with, starting at the Jackets' 22-yard-line.
White Hall needed just three plays to score the winning touchdown on a two-yard run.

7th-grade Indians get defensive stalemate
On Thursday, Sept. 23, the Poyen 7th grade Indians football team concluded in an 8-8 tie at home against the Parkers Chapel Trojans.
Parkers Chapel scored on their first drive with a 10-yard touchdown run. The score was aided by a broken play on 4th and 2 that went for 57 yards.

Indians suffer second consecutive loss
The Poyen Indians (2-2) continued their tour of Class 3A teams on Friday, Sept. 24, falling to the Mountain View Yellowjackets (4-1) with a score of 34-14.
Mountain View struck early scoring on the third play of the game on a 50-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion was good and the Yellowjackets led 8-0 just a minute and a half into the game.
