Sting bashes way to championship

CABOT - The Sheridan Sting 13AAA travel baseball team went 4-0 over the weekend to claim ASE’s Pre-State Warmup 13-year-old Open Division Championship at Cabot.

 Sheridan was bolstered by white-hot hitting and two dominant Sunday pitching performances to win the title. The Sting, currently the top-ranked AAA team in the state and No. 33 nationally, bashed 38 hits in just four games and got semifinal and championship gems on the mound from Brandon Arledge and Hunter Dorsey, respectively.

Sheridan team wins Junior Legion Tournament

The Sheridan Taylor & Lunsford Junior American Legion team captured the championship of the Junior Legion tournament at Oliver Williams Field on Sunday night with a 3-0 win over Searcy. Dalton Domrase tossed the shutout.

To get to the title game, the Jackets drilled Malvern 10-2, edged Benton Sports Shop 3-0 and drubbled Clarksville 10-1. In the semifinal on Sunday, they earned a 13-7 win over Magnet Cove.

“Our pitching was excellent,” said Coach Terry Finley. “We played good defense, had timely hitting and ran the bases well. I’ve got 17 kids and I felt confortable with any of them out there.”

The wins improved the T&L team to 9-1 on the season going into a doubleheader at Smackover in Norphlet on Wednesday.

Senior Hope Carter and junior Shelby Graves of the Sheridan Lady Jackets soccer team have been named Class 6A All-State for their play during the 2016 high school season.

AA Jackets breeze past Benton, Bryant teams

The Sheridan Yellowjackets AA American Legion team rode roughshod over two nearby rivals last week, sweeping the Bryant Black Sox AA team 17-3 and 15-4 on Thursday, June 9 then drilling the Benton Senior Legion team, 15-4, on Friday.

The Jackets improved to 4-1-1 going into a doubleheader at home against Lonoke on Monday, June 13. They’ll host the annual Peoples Bank Wood Bat Classic starting Thursday.

Right-hander Tyler Cleveland went the distance on the mound in Friday’s win, retiring the first nine Benton batters before giving up a lead-off triple in the bottom of the fourth. He wound up with 10 strikeouts and one walk. His 10th strikeout ended the game. He allowed four hits.

Young basketball players shine at High Point Camp

The Sheridan Lady Jackets and head coach Jamison Ingram recently hosted the High Point camp at Sheridan High School. Players were divided into three divisions: High School for those entering Kindergarten to second grade; College for those entering third through fifth grade; and WNBA for those entering sixth through seventh grade.
