The Sheridan McCoy-Tygart Yellowjackets Senior American Legion team was short-handed all week but managed to win two of their three games, nonetheless.
On Friday, Tyler Cleveland, Hunter Hicks and Nathan Kirkpatrick combined on a six-inning no-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader against the Bryant Black Sox AA team, a 14-0 win. In the second game, Kirkpatrick and Austyn Wright allowed just two hits in an 18-3 romp over the Sox.
The Sheridan Taylor & Lunsford Yellowjackets Junior American Legion team went 2-1 last week improving to 8-2 on the season. On Monday, they outslugged the Acme Brick Black Cats, based in Magnet Cove, 12-9. On Friday, as part of the Sheridan Junior Tournament, the Jackets defeated Acme Brick Red, 9-4, before being edged by Bauxite, 9-4, on Saturday.
Taylor & Lunsford is now 8-2 on the season. The team’s next outing is set for Saturday with a twinbill at Texarkana.
The Sheridan Peoples Bank Yellowjackets Junior American Legion team ended a busy weekend by playing for the championship of the Sheridan Junior Tournament on Sunday. But a 5-4 loss to White Hall cost them the championship.
The team opened the tourney with a 5-2 loss to Bauxite on Friday but bounced back to whip the El Dorado Drillers 8-3 and the Acme Brick Black Cats, 10-2, on Saturday. In a wild semifinal on Sunday, the Jackets scored 10 runs in the top of the 10th inning for a 21-11 win over Bauxite. The championship game followed.
