Maumelle knocks Sheridan freshmen out in semifinals

The hosting Maumelle Hornets freshman team put together an overwhelming second half to bring the 2016-17 basketball season to an end for the Sheridan Junior Yellowjackets on Monday, Feb. 6 at the River City Conference championship tournament.

The game was tied 23-23 at the half.

Freshman girls capture River City Conference tourney title

MAUMELLE — The Sheridan Lady Jackets freshman team came into the River City Conference championship tournament last week with just two losses in 14 league games. Both were to the Watson Chapel Junior Lady Wildcats.

Jackets head into Senior Night needing a win

The Sheridan Yellowjackets close out the regular season this Tuesday when they host the Little Rock McClellan Crimson Lions on Senior Night. On Wednesday, the coaches of the 6A schools will meet and determine the seeding for the 6A-West Conference Tournament, which will commence on Saturday.

Junior high Indians battle in district tournament, take second
The junior Indian teams both had a first round bye in the district tournament, due to strong seasons. The second round was played on Thursday, February 9. The PJHS Lady Indians were up first. They were up against the Cutter Moring Star Lady Eagles. Poyen handled the Lady Eagles easily, getting the win by a score of 49-33. Madison Yarbrough started the scoring off on an assist from Madison Edwards. Loren Austin hit a free throw, and then took a charge. Kyla Puckett scored a couple baskets, and the Lady Indians were up 11-5 at the end of the first quarter. Poyen didn’t let up, and the Lady Indians were up 31-24 at the half. The second half also went in Poyen’s favor. The final was 49-33.

PHS wins close one on Senior Night against Murfreesboro Rattlers

It was a slow start for the Poyen Indians on senior night, as they fought back to defeat the Murfreesboro Rattlers on February 7. The Indians won by a score of 69-66. Richie Monroe is the only senior on the Indians roster. He got the start, and gave a solid performance on the night, making his presence felt on defense, especially in the paint.
