SHS soccer teams each fall twice

It was a rugged week for the Sheridan High School soccer teams as each of them dropped a pair of 6A-South Conference matches.

For the Lady Jackets, the losses were 4-1 to El Dorado on Tuesday and 3-0 to Benton on Friday as they slipped to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in league play going into the final four matches of the league round-robin schedule.

Sheridan hosts Little Rock Parkview on Tuesday then Little Rock Hall on Friday. In the final week of the regular season, Texarkana visits on Tuesday, May 6, and Lake Hamilton comes to Sheridan for a make-up game on Friday, May 9.

The Class 6A State Tournament is May 12-14 at El Dorado.

Eighth grade boys second at championship meet

WHITE HALL — The Sheridan eighth grade boys track team won two relays and finished second in the third and Gavin Michau won the shot put as they finished as runners-up to Sylvan Hills at the River City Conference championship meet on Friday, April 15.

Sylvan Hills edged Sheridan 127 to 120. Maumelle was third at 102.5 with Watson Chapel fourth (62.5) and Jacksonville fifth (57).

Michau’s winning toss carried 39’8”. Teammate Jacob Olson was fifth at 31’10”.

Freshman quartet scores at conference meet

WHITE HALL — Dylan Brown, Hunter Threlkeld and Alek Stinchfield each turned in fourth-place finishes to highlight to efforts of the Sheridan freshman boys track team at the River City Conference meet on Friday, April 15.

A deep White Hall team won the team title with 177.50 points.

Moring leads freshmen girls to second at league meet

WHITE HALL — The Sheridan Lady Jackets freshman track team won four events including two by Mackenzie Moring who accounted for 28 points as they finished runner-up to White Hall at the River City Conference championship meet on Friday, April 15.

White Hall finished with 178 points to Sheridan’s 138. Watson Chapel was third with 129 followed by Sylvan Hills (32), Jacksonville (32), Mills (22) and Maumelle (10).

Moring won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 54.69 and the pole vault, getting over at 7’6”. She also finished second in the 100 hurdles in 17.49 and third in the high jump, clearing 4’0”, tying with teammate Brady Quick.

Eighth grade girls earn conference crown

WHITE HALL — It’s not often that your top sprinter also scores points for your track team in the shot put but that’s what Carly Strong did for the Sheridan Junior High girls squad as she amassed 48.5 points to lead her team to the eighth grade team title at the River City Conference, Division I, championships on Friday, April 15.

Sheridan finished with 179 points. Sylvan Hills was second with 118 with Maumelle third with 110 and Jacksonville fourth with 66.
