The annual Peoples Bank Wood Bat Classic will be held at Oliver Williams Field starting this Wednesday with 11 teams competing for the tournament title including the Sheridan Senior American Legion team.
Sheridan is scheduled to take the field initially on Thursday at 8 p.m. against Cabot. On Friday, the Jackets take on the Conway Cougars at 3 p.m.
The tournament also includes Pine Bluff Reliance Bank, which will open the tournament on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., against Conway, the North Little Rock Colts, the Little Rock Diamondbacks, Pine Bluff Simmons, the North Little Rock AA team, Jacksonville Gwatney Chevrolet, the Little Rock Vipers and the Texarkana, Texas, Tigers.
“I’m trying to match up teams that are in opposite zones from each other so they’re not playing the same teams they always play,” said Sheridan manager Mike Moore. “Everybody’s going to play two games Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Then I’m going to seed them all one through 11 based on their record and some tiebreakers and, on Saturday, the top eight will play in a single-elimination bracket with the semifinals and finals on Sunday. The nine-10-11 teams will play in a consolation bracket.”
Wednesday’s schedule also includes 8 p.m. games between the North Little Rock Colts and the Little Rock Diamondbacks plus the North Little Rock AA facing Pine Bluff Simmons.
Along with Sheridan’s game on Thursday, Jacksonville will take on the Little Rock Vipers at 5:30 p.m., and North Little Rock plays the Texarkana, Texas Tigers.
