Fundraising benefits B-17 Memorial Park
On Saturday, Oct. 17, a ceremony was held at the B-17 Memorial Park to announce the donation of three new benches.
The fundraising was spearheaded by Paul Hackney, the junior deacon of the Seark Chapter of the Order of DeMolay.

When voters approved a millage increase in September 2016, the administration, teachers, students, and parents of the Sheridan School District had everything they could ever dream of. Exciting new projects, upgrades, and buildings were going to be underway across the district.

Board pleased with health clinic grant
The Sheridan School Board met for its monthly meeting on Monday, October 12. The meeting was coincidentally held on the same day that Arkansas Department of Education Secretary Johnny Key announced that the district would be one of the four districts in the state to receive over half a million dollars for a school-based health center.

SSD implements 'Virtual Fridays'
Beginning this Friday (Oct. 23) the Sheridan School District will begin offering 'Virtual Fridays' in an effort to provide teachers with time to better prepare for both on-site and virtual instruction for their students.

Arkansas's early voting period kicked off this week as enthusiastic voters try to cast their ballots now and avoid the long lines on Election Day. However, the lines might seem artificially long this year due to the socially distancing that is taking place at the voting centers.

Sate ballot Issues explained
With early voting starting this Monday, Oct. 19, many people are enthusiastic to get to the polls and cast their ballots. It's a safe bet to assume that most people have already decided if they will vote to give President Trump another term or to switch things up and give former Vice President Joe Biden a shot at running the country. Even races that are down the ballot are attracting attention as campaign signs and billboard advertisements are out in full force. And while voting for federal, state, and local candidates is of the utmost importance, the Arkansas State Constitution is also on the ballot.

Fire chief reports calls up
The Sheridan City Council met for its regular scheduled monthly meeting this past Tuesday, October 6. The meeting was held at the Sheridan Parks & Recreation Building, allowing them to properly socially distance. While most of the agenda was business as usual, Fire Chief Ben Hammond raised some eyebrows when he reported that the number of calls his department had received this year exceeded the total number of calls from last year.

SSD receives grant for school-based health clinic
The Sheridan School District has been awarded a grant for more than a half-million dollars to put in place a school-based health clinic that will be available for students, staff and families.
The district was one of four in the state to receive the $542,000 in funding, which will be distributed over a five-year period in order for the school to implement what officials are calling a "School-Based Health Center."
