What's a Phone Booth?
In dealing with our visitors at the museum we naturally get question about the various artifacts and displays. Children almost invariably have unexpected questions about items from yesteryear. "Pluto" the animal shaped rock outside the front door gets asked about the most by far. For the record, Pluto is not manmade. He is a concretion, a type of sedimentary rock that just happened to form in a unique shape. The state legislature convened last week to redraw the state's congressional districts as well as the districts for the state legislature, a process known as redistricting. Since districts must be somewhat equal in population, the process must be done every ten years to account for population changes reflected in the latest U.S. Census. Despite some growth in statewide population of Arkansas, the state only retained its four congressional seats. Currently, Grant County is in the Fourth Congressional District, which is comprised of most of southern and western Arkansas.
