Porcine problems perturb Tull

The Tull Town Council met at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3 and once again the proposed pig ordinance dominated the conversation.

The first 40 minutes of the council meeting were dominated by talk about the proposed ordinance that is expected to be at a point where it can be voted on by the July meeting. Town Attorney Kristin Riggin was once again in attendance to go over the finer points of the ordinance and answer any questions that council members may have had.

Subdivision spacing issue resurfaces

A familiar issue was revisited at the Sheridan City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 4. 

At the June 2018 City Council meeting, an irregularity was discovered at Legacy Pointe Subdivision, in which the first four houses were built too close to each other.

Foreign Exchange Student program rewarding for both student, host

When one hears the phrase “foreign exchange student,” one probably pictures an upper-middle class teenager from France, Germany, Great Britain, or any other western European democracy studying abroad in the United States. Sixteen-year-old Naan does not fit this stereotype.

Naan was raised in a devout Buddhist family living under the rule of the military dictatorship of Thailand. Fortunately, Naan’s family owns a successful travel company and when Naan got the chance to spend a year studying abroad in the United States, he jumped on it immediately.

Runoff set for June 18 in Sheridan School Board election
The three-way race to fill the vacant Position 6 seat on the Sheridan School Board is headed for a runoff. Margaret Dobson, Jeremy Orman and Jan Caldwell were all running to fill the vacancy on the school board, but all three candidates fell well short of garnering a majority of votes required to avoid a runoff.

New sidewalks will connect Sheridan schools

On Tuesday, May 28 the Sheridan City Council held a special meeting to vote on applying for a grant that would help the city build a six-foot wide sidewalk to connect Sheridan High School to Sheridan Middle School.

The man accused of killing a Grapevine man and now charged with capital murder was due back in Grant County Circuit Court for callback on May 20, but the case was rescheduled for June 3 at 1:30 p.m.

Poyen School Board implements new security feature

The topic of school security has been the focal point of discussions at the last few Poyen School Board meetings. In the May meeting, held at the Jerry and Ouida Newton Arena on Tuesday, May 14, the board voted to hire an implement the Social Sentinel Program.

SHS students take home first place at Girls of Promise

For the past three years, Sheridan High School has had teams participating and finishing in the top five of the Girls of Promise, a conference that encourages girls to pursue higher-level science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses past eighth grade with goals toward careers in these fields.
