The rise and fall of The Pines mall
On June 14, The Pines Mall closed its doors after being in business for more than 30 years. The once-lively enclosed shopping center brought people from all over southeast Arkansas, including Sheridan, to Pine Bluff to shop, eat and enjoy themselves. But shoppers have been scarce for years, and the few that were left will now be going elsewhere.

Sheridan School Board back to meeting in person with safeguards in place
After multiple meetings online via video conferencing, the Sheridan School Board was finally able to meet in person on Monday, June 15.
The meeting was held in the Sheridan High School Cafeteria at 7 p.m. All board members were present. Upon entering, all those in attendance were screened for fever. Social distancing was practiced by those on the board by sitting six feet apart from each other across multiple tables, as well as by those in the audience

Entergy's solar pitch shot down by PSC City, county studying next move
An Entergy rate request for solar power that Grant County and Sheridan officials had found attractive was denied by the state Public Service Commission last week.
The three-person Public Service Commission, on June 15, posted its order on the matter, saying Entergy's proposed rate request "does not adequately protect the interests of non-participating ratepayers, and is not just and reasonable or in the public interest." The PSC did give the utility the option of resubmitting its proposal within 30 days, an option that Entergy said it would exercise.

Entergy filed its initial solar power rate request on August 15, 2019, and it took the state Public Service Commission the entire 10 months allowed by law, until June 15, to issue its decision.
