The Sheridan School Board met for its regular monthly meeting this past Monday, November 9. The meeting was held in the Sheridan High School Cafeteria so that social distancing could be practiced.

With the announcement of a vaccine for COVID-19, Grant County residents remain skeptical and cautious about getting the vaccine. In an informal Facebook survey of our followers, The Headlight found that the overwhelming majority of are not planning on getting the vaccine.

Tucked away in their various campsites across the state deer hunters enjoy the great outdoors. There is pattern in the culture of deer hunters. They tell stories with a creative license that glide back and forth between embellishment and flat-out lies. Good natured arguments breakout that have been refought verbatim so often they have become a stage play. Laughter and comradery are in abundance. However, hidden under the surface of the lighthearted banter are some serious discussions.

With Election Day two weeks in the rearview mirror, one would think the answer to who won the election would be nearly unanimous in any given year besides 2000. 2020 election draws record voter turnout in county
The 2020 General Election saw record high turnout across the nation, and Grant County was no exception. Of the 12,000 registered voters in Grant County, just over 8,200 cast ballots in this year's election, a turnout rate of 68.22%. Over 6,000 votes were cast during the early voting period in the two weeks prior to the election, and in the form of absentee ballots, a new record for Grant County. In comparison, less than 7,500 ballots were cast in the 2016 election.

Gidson wins District judge seat
Malvern Attorney Billy Jack Gibson defeated Malvern School District Attorney Jace Roberts in the nonpartisan race for the 33rd District Court of Arkansas. The district court has jurisdiction over both Grant and Hot Spring Counties. Roberts defeated Gibson by almost 900 votes in Grant County, but the margin was not great enough to hold off Gibson's nearly 1200 vote victory in Hot Spring County, where Gibson has made a name for himself with his private practice firm.

Teen charged in shooting, juvenile shot in hand
A 19-year-old Sheridan man was arrested Halloween night in connection with shooting a juvenile in the hand after the juvenile allegedly broke into the man's vehicle, according to authorities.
