County's Senate, House representation could see big changes with redistricting
The Arkansas Board of Apportionment voted last Friday, moving one step closer to finalizing the new legislative district maps for both houses of the Arkansas General Assembly. Grant County's representation in both the Arkansas State Senate and Arkansas House of Representatives is set to see big changes if the new proposals become finalized.

Women's Shelter hosts groundbreaking for new expansion
Keeping the Faith Women's Shelter recently held its groundbreaking ceremony on the expansion and remodel of the existing shelter. The shelter, located in an undisclosed location, provides assistance to victims of domestic violence and to homeless women and children along with a variety of services to assist these women with regaining their independence.

Board recognizes Hester for state championship win, hears update on ongoing projects
The Sheridan School District Board of Education met this past Oct. 13 for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting. Emma Hester, of the Sheridan Lady Jackets Golf Team, was recognized for winning the 2021 Individual Girls 5A State Championship. Coach Scott Hoffman addressed the board about the recent success.

Redistricting leaves Grant County unchanged
After a dramatic two weeks at the Arkansas State Capitol, the Arkansas State Legislature has approved a new congressional map that will keep Grant County in the state's Fourth Congressional District. The state legislature must redraw the districts every 10 years to reflect population changes in the most recent U.S. Census.

Kohler Co. implementing vaccine mandate for employees
The Kohler Co. recently announced a COVID-19 vaccine mandate that will impact employees across the nation including hundreds of its Sheridan-based employees.
Under the new policy, every U.S. employee will have to be fully vaccinated by Jan. 1 of next year. Each employee will have to provide the appropriate documentation to prove their vaccination status or face termination. The company announced the rule in a company-wide email on Sept. 29, giving associates around three months to become fully vaccinated.

Miller pleads in 3rd child porn related charge
David Brent Miller, a former teacher at Sheridan High School, pleaded not guilty late last month to distributing/possessing matter depicting child sex, his third child pornography related charge. While his original charges were out of El Dorado, this charge was from Pulaski County. Online court records were sealed for this case, and a spokesman for the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office declined to comment.
