The Sheridan School District ended the 2013-2014 school year with a revised enrollment figure of 4,129 students – a decrease of 50 students that was reported June 6. Superintendent Jerrod Williams said he believes the number is a little deceiving because the student count generally increases by the time school re-opens in August.
The Southeast Arkansas Economic Development District, Inc. recently awarded a General Improvement Grant to the Grant County American Legion Post 30. A check in the amount of $16,351.40 will assist in completing the work at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Park. The funds from the grant were used to pay for 5,000 pounds of granite and will pay for the concrete parking lot (130-feet by 30-feet) and the etching of 71 Killed-in-Action names on granite tiles.
The latest U.S. National Seismic Hazard Map released by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) last week extends hazard zones in some eastern, central and western portions of the country and is placing portions of South Carolina, Illinois and Missouri into top-level high risk zones for future earthquakes.
