Poyen School District has a new school board member following the resignation of Josh Beaver at last week’s monthly school board meeting.
Chad Hammond has been appointed to replace Beaver for the remainder of Beaver’s term.
Hammond will hold the position until this year’s school board election, which is on May 22.
PSD Superintendent Jerry Newton said that he had talked to Hammond about the possibility of taking the position, and Newton said that Hammond showed interest.
Newton also said in a later interview that Beaver decided to resign from the board because, “He decided that this wasn't what he wanted to do.”
Beaver was in his first term on the school board.
In other news, the board voted to continue to employee Laura Daniel, Dennis Emerson and Jamie Webb for the 2018/19 school year.
Daniel is the curriculum coordinator/federal programs, while Emerson and Webb are the high school and elementary principals, respectively.
The board also approved the resignations of several employees.
George McKinley, Nikki Kirkpatrick, Anita Axelson and Kirstie Benning all resigned, effective May 18.
