The students and staff at Sheridan Middle School are sad to see two outstanding teachers leave the field of education as they will retire affective at the end of this school year. Retiring are Mrs. Peggy West and Mrs. Linda Wheat. The faculty held a retirement reception on Tuesday, May 21 at 3:30 p.m. in the school media center for both women who together gave their time and talents to affect students in a positive way for 59 years!
Mrs. Peggy West, SMS principal for the past few years, will be retiring after 40 years as an educator. Mrs. West received her BSE degree in 1973 from Ouachita Baptist University. She then later furthered her education obtaining her MSE degree at the University of Central Arkansas and her Leadership degree from Harding University. Her career took her from Stanford, Ark. for four years, to Dewitt, Ark. for seven years, and finally to Sheridan Middle School where she taught 8th grade science for many years before becoming Assistant Principal and eventually School Principal. During her retirement, Mrs. West plans to spend more time with her family, especially her grandson, Ian, and work in her flower beds. She is married to Doug West, SSD Assistant Superintendent. They live in Sheridan. Mrs. West has been an outstanding leader and will be greatly missed at SMS!
Mrs. Linda Wheat, 8th grade social studies teacher for several years at Sheridan Middle School, will be retiring after 19 years as an educator. Mrs. Wheat graduated from Henderson State University where she earned her BSE degree. After teaching in Malvern for a few years, Mrs. Wheat made the move to Sheridan Middle School where she completed her career as a social studies teacher. After retirement, Mrs. Wheat hopes to be able to spend time with her family, especially her eight grandchildren. She is married to Monroe Wheat, and they live in Malvern. Mrs. Wheat has always been a favorite at SMS, and she will be missed!
Congratulations to both of these women for their outstanding service to the Sheridan School District. We wish them both the best in their retirement!
