Local flooding from heavy rains leaves damage in its wake
It comes as no surprise that this week's leading story is the heavy rainfall and flooding that covered parts of the state last week. Some parts of Southeast Arkansas saw over a foot of rain in a 72 hour period, according to the National Weather Service.

Community theater gets permenent home
The Grant County Community Theatre now has a new place to call home: Lancaster Hall. The theater held a ribbon cutting ceremony this past Friday, June 4 at Lancaster Hall, formerly known as Sheridan First Christian Church. Unfortunately, Sheridan First Christian Church had seen declining membership and attendance which left the church with just four remaining members.

Council discusses employee inmate vaccination percentage
The Sheridan City Council met this past Tuesday, June 1 for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting. The meeting was held at the Sheridan Recreation Center so that social distancing could be observed.

The Poyen Lindsey Cemetery held its annual business meeting at the Veterans Memorial this past Sunday, May 30. While subjects such as funds, future projects, and the election of a new board member were discussed, the obvious elephant in the room was the cemetery's recent brush with controversy.

SHS graduates over 240 seniors in Class of 2021
The Sheridan School District recently held its graduation ceremony for the Sheridan High School Class of 2021 this past Monday, May 24 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. Normally, the ceremony is held at the Jack Stephens Center but was moved to War Memorial Stadium due to COVID-19 related capacity restrictions.

Crosswhite sworn in as newest Sheridan Schools board member
Wade Crosswhite was sworn into his first term on the Sheridan School Board of Education last week by Circuit Judge Stephen Shirron. Crosswhite won an uncontested election to fill the seat held by Deborah Mooney, who declined to run for re-election after one term.
