For the past three years, Sheridan High School has had teams participating and finishing in the top five of the Girls of Promise, a conference that encourages girls to pursue higher-level science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses past eighth grade with goals toward careers in these fields.
This year, a group of three juniors and one senior from Sheridan finished first in the competition with their Arkansas College Calculator application, which helps find which scholarships are available at each of the state’s colleges and universities. The team of Lara Parker, My Souvanna, Emery Talbert and Kacie Wyrick worked tirelessly on this project and saw their hard work pay off by being named the best in the state.
Each week, we try to bring you the latest news available. That stands true for the section you are holding in your hands.
But included in today’s Headlight is a 22-page section filled with old news. In many cases, it’s decades and even more than a century old. That’s because we are celebrating the county’s sesquicentennial. From before our beginnings as a county to where we are today, and a little about where we are positioned for tomorrow – it’s in the special section.
