Rachel Maybell Davis Maples, 97, of Hot Springs, Ark., formerly of Pine Bluff, Ark., passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016. She was born Feb. 26, 1919, near the Lazy Bend Community in Grant County.
Rachel is preceded in death by her parents: Gill and Genie Davis; husband: Johnnie W. Maples, Sr.; brother: T.M. (Marshall) Davis; sons: Robert G. Maples and Ulyss Maples; and grandson: Robert I. Maples.
Left to cherish her memory are her son: John W. (Mary Lou) Maples of Pineville, La.; daughter: Ginger Dudey of Hot Springs; grandchildren: Michael (Tran) Maples of Atlanta, Ga., Karl Maples of Los Angeles, Calif., Collin (Terri) Maples of Hot Springs, John P. (Amber) Maples of Ward, and Malia Maples of Arvada, Colo.; and eight great-grandchildren.
Nona Mae Mathis Taylor of Grapevine, Ark., was born Sept. 14, 1936, in Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of the late Noble Dewey and Myrtle Mae Hill Mathis.
She was a member of Sardis Missionary Baptist Church in Grapevine. Her life revolved around her church, husband, children and grandchildren. For over 45 years she served her Lord by playing the piano and organ at His church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and teaching Sunday School. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
